Experience getting hands on with clay & create your own designs at Moon Studio Ceramics!  Imogen offers a variety of ceramics classes for all skill levels, from her studio in Christchurch, Dorset.

Structured lessons enable you to design and craft your own ceramic work. Classes are suitable for complete beginners & creatives wishing to improve their skills or try something new. You can learn a range of hand building techniques including pinch, press moulding and slab building. You can also experience throwing on the potters wheel. Discover how to apply surface design and decoration with underglazes to embellish and complete your ceramics. Class sizes are small, welcoming and run every month.

 Taster Ceramics Class – £40 per person

Duration: 3 Hours, 10:00am—13:00pm

This popular workshop is a good introduction to clay and ideal for beginners. The session will begin with a short demonstration of hand building, wheel throwing and surface pattern before it’s over to you to get making! You can expect to make and decorate two pieces such as a mug or small slab vase in the session. With only six students per workshop ensures plenty of one to one tuition.

 

Pottery Experience Day – £60 per person

Duration:  5 hours, 10:30am—15:30pm

This full day workshop is suitable for all skill levels. The session will begin with a demonstration of hand building techniques including slab, press and pinch, plus how to throw on the potters wheel. After this you will create your own wares. You will also be shown how to apply surface design and decorate with coloured slips and underglaze to finish your creations. You can expect to make up to three small pieces or one large to be fired. Just 6 places per workshop ensures plenty of one to one tuition and support. Please bring a packed lunch.

Private tuition – from £70 per person

Duration: From 2 hour sessions up to a full day pottery experience

Bespoke one to one workshops tailored to suit you. Whether you are a complete beginner, or looking for the opportunity try specialist techniques including:

  • Surface design including glazing

Introduction to Ceramics Course – £144

Duration 3 hours, Tuesdays from 10:00am—13:00pm or 18:00pm-21:00pm

Dates 2019: May 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th & June 4th, 11th

This 6 week course offers people the opportunity to explore working with clay. The sessions are suitable for all skill levels, so if you are a beginner or a maker wanting to further develop your practice. Imogen will demonstrate a range of hand building techniques, wheel throwing, surface design and you will learn about different clays and glazing. This will enable you to develop a personal design led project, whether you want to make large sculptural work or tableware.

Just 6 places per course, booking essential.

 

Coil pot building  -£65

Duration 6 hours, from 10am-4pm

The Coil Pot Building workshop focuses on this traditional hand building method. This is a great class for those who want to build larger work. The day will start with a demonstration of the hand building technique of coiling to create your basic form. The afternoon will be focused on refining your form and preparing for firing. You will also learn about surface decoration methods and your pieces can be decorated with engobes, slips and underglazes.

We will be using a stoneware crank clay. Your pieces will go through a single high firing to 1240c, ready for collection around 4-6 weeks later (or delivery for P&P costs).

This workshop is open to all skill levels. Class sizes are small and friendly, and Imogen will be on hand to offer support with ideas and processes throughout.

Surface design  -£45

Duration 3 hours, 10am-1pm

The Surface Design workshop focuses on decoration methods. You will be shown how to use the slab method to create your basic form. We will explore ways to approach surface decoration and it’s relationship to form. Imogen will demonstrate various techniques that you can apply to your own work. These include printing, stamping, scraffito, incising, resists & slips.

We will be using earthenware clay. Your work will be glazed and fired, ready for collection around 4-6 weeks later (or delivery for P&P costs).

This workshop is open to all skill levels. Class sizes are small and friendly, and Imogen will be on hand to offer support with ideas and processes throughout.

 

Porcelain Vessels – £55

Duration: 3 hours, 2:30pm-5:30pm

Dates 2019: TBA

Come and discover the translucent properties of porcelain. You will learn how to create tealight lanterns and will have the opportunity to experiment with paper clay and P2 porcelain. The class will focus on slab technique and surface design. Decorate with coloured underglazes. Your work will then be high fired, and glazed (optional) for collection 4-6 weeks later. These sessions are suitable for all skill levels. You can expect to make up to three pieces to be fired.
