Experience getting hands on with clay & create your own designs. Imogen offers a variety of ceramics classes for all skill levels. The studio is nestled between The New Forest and Avon Beach, close to Christchurch, Dorset. It’s within easy access from Bournemouth, Poole, Lymington & Southampton.
Structured lessons enable you to design and craft your own ceramic work. Classes are suitable for complete beginners & creatives looking to develop their skills or try something new. You can learn a range of hand building techniques including pinch, press moulding and slab building. You can also experience throwing on the potters wheel. Discover how to apply surface design and decoration with underglazes to embellish and complete your ceramics. Class sizes are small, welcoming and run every month.

Taster Ceramics Class – £40 per person

This popular workshop is a fun introduction to clay and ideal for beginners or if you can’t commit to regular classes. The session will start with a short demonstration of slab building, pinch pots, wheel throwing and simple surface pattern before it’s over to you to get making! You can expect to make and decorate two pieces such as a mug or small slab vase in the session. With only six students per workshop ensures plenty of one to one tuition. Can also be booked as a private 1:1 or 1:2 class.
Pottery Experience Day – £60 per person
Duration: 5 hours, 10:30am—15:30pm
This full day workshop is suitable for all skill levels and offers the opportunity to try a wider range of techniques than the Taster Class.
We’ll begin with a demonstration of hand building techniques including slab, press and pinch. You’ll also be shown how to throw different forms on the potters wheel. After this you will create your own wares. You will learn how to apply surface texture and decorate with coloured slips and underglaze to finish your creations. You can expect to make up to three small pieces or one large to be fired. Just 6 places per workshop ensures plenty of one to one tuition and support. Please bring a packed lunch.
Private tuition – from £70 per person
Duration: From 2 hour sessions up to a full day pottery experience
Bespoke one to one workshops tailored to suit you. Whether you are a complete beginner, or looking for the opportunity try specialist techniques including:
- Wheel Throwing
- Slip Casting
- Mould Making
- Large Sculpture
- Surface design including glazing
Classes can be booked from Monday to Friday either morning, afternoon or evening. The fee for your session will depend on duration and materials, and can be booked for up to two people to share. Please get in touch for further information.
Clay nights – weekly pottery sessions – £20
Duration 2.5 hours, Tuesdays from 18:00pm-20:30pm

These weekly pottery classes are for anyone who has already attended a workshop. These sessions are relaxed and unstructured, designed for returning students to work on personal projects and to further develop skills. Classes need to be booked in advance and cost of materials is extra.

Introduction to Ceramics Course – £144
Duration 3 hours, Tuesdays from 10:00am—13:00pm or 18:00pm-21:00pm

This 6 week course offers people the opportunity to explore working with clay. The sessions are suitable for all skill levels, so if you are a beginner or a maker wanting to further develop your practice. Imogen will demonstrate a range of hand building techniques, wheel throwing, surface design and you will learn about different clays and glazing. This will enable you to develop a personal design led project, whether you want to make large sculptural work or tableware.

Surface design -£45
Duration 3 hours, 10am-1pm

The Surface Design workshop focuses on decoration methods. You will be shown how to use the slab method to create your basic form. We will explore ways to approach surface decoration and it’s relationship to form. Imogen will demonstrate various techniques that you can apply to your own work. These include printing, stamping, scraffito, incising, resists & slips.
We will be using earthenware clay. Your work will be glazed and fired, ready for collection around 4-6 weeks later (or delivery for P&P costs).
This workshop is open to all skill levels. Class sizes are small and friendly, and Imogen will be on hand to offer support with ideas and processes throughout.
Porcelain Vessels – £55
Duration: 3 hours, 10am-1pm
Dates 2019: 23rd Nov
Come and discover the translucent properties of porcelain. You will learn how to create tealight lanterns and will have the opportunity to experiment with paper clay and P2 porcelain. The class will focus on slab technique and surface design. Decorate with coloured underglazes. Your work will then be high fired, and glazed (optional) for collection 4-6 weeks later. These sessions are suitable for all skill levels. You can expect to make up to three pieces to be fired.
