Adult Ceramics Classes

Do you get inspired by clay? Are you potty for pots and covet ceramics? Want to make your own?

Learn how at Moon Studio Ceramics. I offer a range of classes to suit all abilities at my studio in Christchurch, Dorset. 

Structured lessons will enable you to design and craft your own ceramic work. I run taster sessions suitable for complete beginners or creatives wanting to improve their skills. You will learn a range of hand building techniques including coiling, pinching, press moulding and slab building. You can also have a go at throwing on the potters wheel. Discover how to apply surface design and decoration with underglazes to complete your work. Class sizes are small, friendly and open to all.

Experience getting hands on with clay. Create your own design from scratch or try a themed workshop. This is a fun craft activity for friends, works days out and parties.

 Taster Ceramics Class  – £40 per person

Duration: 3 Hours from 10:00am-13:00pm

Dates:  Every second Saturday please check calendar. Booking for groups by arrangement.

This intensive workshop is a great introduction to ceramics. The session will begin with a short demonstration of hand building, wheel throwing and surface pattern before it’s over to you to get making! Depending on how quickly you work, you can expect to make and decorate one or two pieces such as a mug or small sculpture in the session.  


Pottery Experience Days – £60 per person

Duration:  5 hours from 10:30am-15:30pm

Designed to be one off workshops, these classes give you more time to learn and are great fun for groups of friends or works days out.
The day begins with a short demonstration of hand building techniques including slab, coil, press and pinch. As well as decorating and surface design you’ll also get to throw a pot on the wheel. After sketching out an idea on paper, it’s over to you to sculpt it from earthenware clay. Once complete, decorate with coloured slips and underglaze to finish your creation. Just 6 places per workshop ensures plenty of one to one tuition.


Four Week Ceramics Course – £100/£30 per person

Duration 2.5 hours, Tuesdays from 10:00am-12:30pm & (18:00pm -20:30pm summer term only)

The four week course offers people the opportunity to explore working with earthenware clay. The sessions are suitable for all skill levels, so if you are a beginner or if you want to further develop your practice. I will demonstrate a range of hand building techniques and wheel throwing, and you will learn how to work with clay, which will enable you to develop a personal design led project. You can book on a weekly basis (£30) or the complete course (£100). Just 4 places per session, booking essential.


One to One and Group workshops

Duration: From 2 hours taster sessions up to a full day pottery experience.

Bespoke workshops can be tailored to suit you. Whether you are a complete beginner, or just looking for the opportunity to get back on the wheel. Classes can be booked for any day and time (subject to availability!) and either as a one to one or for groups of up to 12 people. You’re welcome to bring food with you, I will supply plenty of refreshments. Your creations will be fired ready for collection around 3-4 weeks later. Please collect work within 3 months of your workshop date.
