Pottery Classes


Do you get inspired by clay? Are you potty for pots and covet ceramics? Want to make your own?

Experience getting hands on with clay & create your own ceramics. Imogen offers a variety of pottery classes for all skill levels. The studio is nestled between The New Forest and Avon Beach, close to Christchurch, Dorset. It’s within easy access from Bournemouth, Poole, Lymington & Southampton.

Structured lessons will enable you to design and craft your own pottery. Classes are suitable for complete beginners & creatives looking to develop their skills or simply just to try something new. You can learn a range of hand building techniques including pinch, press moulding and slab building. You can also experience throwing on the potters wheel. Discover how to apply surface design and decoration with underglazes to embellish and complete your ceramics.

Class sizes are small & welcoming with a maximum of six students per group, ensuring plenty of tuition. Your creations will be glazed and fired, and ready for collection around 6 weeks later (or delivery for P&P costs).

Ceramics taster Class – £50 per person

Duration: 3 Hours, 10am to 1pm

This popular half day workshop is a fun introduction to clay and ideal for beginners or if you can’t commit to regular classes. The session will start with a short demonstration of slab building, wheel throwing and how to apply simple surface pattern. Next it’s over to you to get making your own! You can expect to make two pots such as a mug & textured slab vase. Finish off your wares with colourful underglaze paints.

Bespoke one to one workshops tailored to suit you. Whether you are a complete beginner, or looking for the opportunity try specialist techniques including:

Pottery Experience Day – £90 per person

Duration:  5 hours, 10am to 3pm 

DATES FOR 2021: 18th & 27th February • 18th March • • more TBA

This full day workshop is suitable for all skill levels and is focussed on making tableware.

Make a cup, small plate & bowl using three different techniques. The workshop begins with a demonstration of throwing on the potters wheel & hand building techniques including pinch & slab. You’ll also learn about surface decoration methods. Your time will be split between practice on the potters wheel, and making by hand. At the end of the class you will have made three pots and you can then paint your wares with colourful underglazes to finish.

Complimentary refreshments included. Please bring a packed lunch.


Introduction to throwing – £60 pp

Duration: 3 hours, 10am to 1pm

This half day workshop focuses on using the potters wheel. Imogen will first demonstrate how to prepare, centre and shape your clay. Each student will have their own wheel. You will then spend time at the wheel practicing to create your perfect pots! You will learn how to shape cups (cylinders) and bowls, and can choose two of your pots to be fired and glazed.

Throwing Experience day – £120 pp

Duration: 6 hours, 10am to 4pm 

Dates 2021: 20th & 26th February • 20th March • more TBA

This class is a full day of exploring throwing on the potters wheel. After a short demo, the morning will be spent getting to grips with centering and throwing a cylinder. Each student has their own wheel for the day. After a short lunch break, there will be time to then refine and hone your skills, creating different forms from bowls to vases. We will also look at how to make spouts and attach handles. You can expect to make lots of pots, and choose three to be glazed.
