Pottery Classes


Do you get inspired by clay? Are you potty for pots and covet ceramics? Want to make your own?

Experience getting hands on with clay & create your own ceramics. Imogen offers a variety of pottery classes for all skill levels. The studio is nestled between The New Forest and Avon Beach, close to Christchurch, Dorset. It’s within easy access from Bournemouth, Poole, Lymington & Southampton.

Structured lessons will enable you to design and craft your own pottery. Classes are suitable for complete beginners or creatives looking to develop their skills or simply just to try something new. You can learn a range of hand building techniques including pinch, press moulding and slab building. You can also try your hand at throwing on the potters wheel. Discover how to apply surface design and decoration with underglazes to embellish and complete your ceramics.

Class sizes are small & welcoming with a maximum of six students per group, ensuring plenty of tuition. Courses are suitable for over 16s only.

Your creations will be glazed and fired, and ready for collection around 6 weeks later (or delivery for P&P costs).

Ceramics taster Class – £50 pp

Duration: 3 Hours, 10am to 1pm

This popular half day workshop is a fun introduction to clay and ideal for beginners or if you can’t commit to regular classes. The session will start with a short demonstration of slab building, how to apply simple surface pattern plus throwing on the potters wheel. Next it’s over to you to get making your own! You can expect to make two pots such as a mug & textured slab vase. Finish off your wares with colourful underglaze paints.

*Can also be booked as a private 1:1 or 1:2 class, or for groups

Introduction to throwing – £60 pp

Duration: 3 hours, 10am to 1pm

This half day workshop focuses on using the potters wheel. Imogen will first demonstrate how to prepare, centre and shape your clay. You will then spend time at the wheel practicing to create your perfect pots! Each student will have their own wheel. You will learn how to shape cups (cylinders) and bowls, and can choose three of your pots to be fired and glazed.

Pottery Experience Day – £100 pp

Duration: 6 hours 10am to 4pm

This full day workshop is suitable for all skill levels and is focussed on making tableware.

Make a cup, small plate & bowl. The workshop begins with a demonstration of the techniques you’ll be using to create your pottery. Throwing on the potters wheel & the hand building methods pinch & slab. You’ll also learn how to apply surface decoration. Your time will be split between practice on the potters wheel, and making by hand. At the end of the class you will have made three pots and you can then paint your wares with colourful underglazes to finish.

Throwing Experience day – £120 pp

Duration: 6 hours, 10am to 4pm

This class is a full day of exploring throwing on the potters wheel. After an introduction demo, the morning will be spent getting to grips with centering and throwing a cylinder. Each student has their own wheel for the day. We will have a short break for lunch, then it’s back to it! Another demo to show techniques to create different forms from bowls to vases. There will be time to then refine and hone your potting skills. You can expect to make lots of pots, and choose three to be glazed and fired.
