Pottery Taster Classes

Are you potty for pots? Do you covet ceramics? Come and learn to make your own!

Experience getting hands on with clay and create your own clay masterpieces. Imogen offers a variety of pottery classes for all skill levels. The ceramics studio is nestled between The New Forest and Avon Beach, close to Christchurch, Dorset. It’s within easy access from Bournemouth, Poole, Lymington & Southampton.

Structured lessons will enable you to design and craft your own pottery. Classes are suitable for complete beginners, or if you have previous experience. Try your hand at throwing on the potters wheel. Other classes cover hand building techniques including pinch, press moulding and slab building. Learn how to apply surface design and decoration with underglazes to embelish and complete your ceramics.

Class sizes are small & fun with a maximum of seven adults per group, ensuring plenty of tuition. Suitable for over 16’s only.

Your finished creations will be glazed and fired, and ready for collection 6-8 weeks later (or delivery for P&P costs).

Ceramics taster Class – £60 pp

Duration 3 Hours, 10am to 1pm • Saturday, once a month


This popular half day workshop is a fun introduction to clay and ideal for beginners or if you can’t commit to regular classes. The session will start with a short demonstration of slab building, how to apply simple surface pattern plus throwing on the potters wheel. Next it’s over to you to get making your own! You can expect to make two pots such as a mug & textured slab vase. Finish off your wares by painting with colourful underglazes. They will then be fired with transparent glaze.

Throwing Taster Class – £70 pp

Duration 3 hours, 10am to 1pm • Friday, once a month

This half day workshop is an introdution to using the potters wheel. Imogen will first demonstrate how to prepare, centre and shape your clay. You will then spend time at the wheel practicing to create your perfect pots! Each student will have their own wheel. You will learn how to shape cups (cylinders) At the end of the session, you can choose your top two pots to have fired, using one of the studio glazes.

Raku Fired Ceramics – £60 pp

Duration 3 hours, 10am to 1pm • Sunday, once a month

Learn about the exciting process of Raku! Choose from a selection of prepared biscuit fired pots. You will then use a range of studio made glazes to decorate your pot. We will then work together to load and fire the Raku kiln. Watch as your pots are fired, then taken out of the kiln while still red hot. Finally give them a wash to reveal the glaze transformation. This is a thrilling process, suitable for beginners or if you have previous experience and wish to have your own pots fired using this technique.

You will be able to take your Raku-fired pieces away with you on the day.
